If not, see this thread: Sorry, DragonRider The BIOS 2.10 only applies to Y470 and Y570 laptops. Like DragonRider said, some V570 users have already posted their V570 BIOS roms on bios-mod.com so that someone knowledgeable can remove those wifi whitelists. You can register at that forum and subscribe to their threads so you can recieve the updates when the whitelist removed BIOS are released.
A BIOS whitelist is basically allowing only specific Wifi cards with a specific Field Replacement Unit ( FRU) number. Wifi cards that are sold on the market are mostly generic (reference) that don't have any FRU number included. Let's say your Wifi 1000 N breaks, and you bought the same Wifi 1000 N on Amazon. The same wifi card won't work because it doesn't match Lenovo's FRU number for that 1000 N. Thus you're stuck with Lenovo's version of Wifi 1000 N. Most of the Wifi cards that are sold on the market are compatible with the V570.
It's just that Lenovo prevents you from putting a different Wifi card other than the one they listed on the Hardware Maintenance Manual. That's why bios-mods.com are created so that knowledgeable people can remove the wifi whitelist so that you can put the a much better Intel wifi on the market. Sorry to hold you up, but this puzzles me because the wireless card in my laptop is stock.
Why would a bios related problem show up when upgrading an operating system? I don't get it.
I bought this laptop for less than $500 at Best Buy, which is one of the best deals I've ever seen for a laptop with an i5 processor (and fingerprint scanner). Maybe the crazy low price has something to do with my wireless card not being recognized by the BIOS? Why didn't this happen when I upgraded the hard drive? Everything that cbautis2 said is correct. Sorry, I didn't know that the 2.10 BIOS mod, only applies to the Y570/Y470. Yet, you say the 6150 card was already installed in your V570 when you bought it at Best Buy?
What do you mean by 'stock'? When you brought it, was Win 8, or Win 7 OS installed? If Win 7, did the card work before you made any changes in hardware, or software? Where did you obtain the drivers for the W8, Wireless-N + WiMAX 6150 card, from the Lenovo support page, or the Intel driver support site?
We're assuming that when you say you 'upgraded the hard drive' you only meant the OS, from W7, to W8. It's hard to know where you're at, without knowing how you got there. From what information you've already posted, it appears that you bought the V570 from Best Buy running W7, and it already had the 6150 card installed. Then you upgraded the OS to W8. After the W8 upgrade, the 6150 card doesn't work, even though you have the W8 drivers installed on the card. Is that pretty much a description of your current problem? My V570 came with Windows 7 home premium.
When I got it home, I upgraded to Windows 7. And last week I upgraded again to Windows 8 and installed an SSD drive. I'm using the word 'stock' to describe my wireless card to mean that the wireless card that is now in my laptop is the same as when I purchased the laptop originally. In other words, I have not upgraded the wireless card. So, specifically, I've got a driver error showing in 'Other devices', namely Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N + WiMAX 6150. I've gone to Intel's site and it autodetected the 6150 and offered an updated version and reported having installed successfully.
But device manager still shows a faulty driver. Under Network Adapters, I show Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 6150 correctly installed. So I would assume it's the '+WiMAX' that's not working. WiMAX is a reference to cellular capability right?
Maybe that's my problem. Here's a screenshot.
